Pay Per Click (PPC)What is a pay per click search engine?
How it works This is a method of getting your site high in a search engine results list. Unlike with the bigger search engines you’re not actually paying any money for your position on the list. The position is determined by how much you are willing to pay per visit (or click) to your site. By using PPC you have the opportunity to target traffic to your site with the keywords you use. When selecting your keywords you should try not to be too general as not only will you find the more common keywords have higher bids but they will also bring excess traffic to your site that is not interested in your product. To get your site at the top of the search engine results listings you first need to choose a price you are willing to pay for each person that clicks through to your site. If your bid is highest then your site will be the first displayed when your keyword is typed into a search engine. Usually there is no limit to the amount of keywords you can bid for and you can also use incorrect spellings as your keywords. How you pay When you register your site on a PPC search engine you are required to set up an account from where you will pay for each click to your site. Most search engines have a minimum amount you have to pay in to this account but it is usually only very small. When users click through to your site your account gets charged and your balance decreases. You may want to think of this as similar to a pay as you go system for a mobile phone. This allows you to budget for exactly how much you want to spend as once your account balance runs out then your keywords are removed from the list until funds are replaced in the account. |
